Mother’s Day Weekend in the Long Beach Peninsula

Apr 17, 2023 | Family Fun

It’s that time of year when it’s time to honor the most important woman in your life. We’re talking about Mother’s Day. Whether it’s your mom, stepmom, grandma, auntie, or favorite female, it’s a wonderful reason to celebrate. And what better place to honor her than in one of the hundreds of spots in the Long Beach Peninsula. To help you make your plans, we’ve made a list of some fun things to do with mom in the Peninsula this Mother’s Day. Let’s start Mother’s Day on a Saturday…

Saturday Market Shopping with Mom

Who says you can’t celebrate Mother’s Day on a Saturday? Stroll with your mama along the beautiful waterfront at the Port of Ilwaco. Local vendors of art, produce, and hand-crafted treasures will be on hand. Purchase something special to remind you of your day together or simply stroll the local galleries, enjoying each other’s company. Or stop by Purly Shell Fiber Arts and contribute to an organic, ongoing woven art piece. Their loom will be set up on the patio for a hands-on experience. Be sure to ask them about their flock of sheep while you’re there with mom! Keep the artful moments going…

Art Walk with Mom

If you’re looking for some more creative things to do with mom, head over to Tokeland and North Cove. On a tiny strip of land near the knuckle of the ocean and Willapa Bay, is a simmering artist community. In this small area, more than 30% of the population are working artists. And on this weekend, you’ll have a chance to see them at work. Participating artists will open their studios to the public. You and your mom can enjoy demonstrations, ask questions, and shop for one-of-a-kind treasures. Prefer to make the art yourself?

Pottery with your Parental

Treat your mom to a special nerikomi clay workshop on Saturday at the Ilwaco Artworks. Learn how to experiment using “nerikomi” techniques, involving pressing or folding colors of clay into designs. You and your mama will learn how to create your memorable masterpiece from Ally Bruser, a local artist, teacher, and mother. But let’s not forget to stop and smell the roses…

Flower Bar with Mom!

If you’re looking for some flowery things to do with mom, join Rhodesia Flower at Alder + Co. They’ll be having a blooming good time at their pop-up Mother’s Day flower bar. Moms will be able to choose their own blossoms and design a special bouquet. In addition to your flowers, Alder + Co has an incredible selection of trinkets and gifts to enhance her bunch. Select one of the hundreds of hand-made treasures featured in their store. And grab her a Wild Pine Coffee Co latte while you’re at it. All that floral designing can make a person thirsty! In addition to their seasonal offerings there will be a selection of specialty Mother’s Day menu options. Still hungry?

The menu will include a Chef-selected specialty entrée fit for your queens. And all mums will receive a complimentary cupcake. Crikey, this sounds like some bonza’ things to do with mom!

And if your mom loves seafood pasta, then she’s in luck. The Loose Kaboose Diner will be featuring a Mother’s Day special just for her! Seafood fettuccine will be served with a shrimp salad and garlic bread. For those moms with sensitivity, there’ll be a gluten-free version. And don’t forget the cobbler! A seasonal cobbler made for mom will be a menu highlight. But after all these treats, she might need to run it off…

Run, Momma, Run!

Looking for some high-energy things to do with mom instead? For those active mommas on the run, sign up for the 3rd Annual Pacific Coast Running Festival. This is a full weekend affair, with a hefty roster of activities to choose from. Options include a 5k, 10k, or half marathon. Tell your ma to grab her bike and enter in the “Tour De Pacific” 12.6-mile bicycle tour. Or go for the first ever Sand Marathon. There’s even a Kid’s Dash, just in case mom wants to cheer the little ones on instead! Six different events are happening in one epic weekend. If you’ve got a mom that knows how to hustle, this is the place to be. After all that running, she may want to end with a song…

Seafood and Serenades with Mom

The peninsula is full of incredible seafood restaurants, and Castaways Seafood Grille is one of them. Join them on Mother’s Day for food and drink specials, along with live music on Sunday night. Let your moms get serenaded while they sip a well-deserved drink at a local’s favorite spot. Want to keep the momma melody going?

More Music with Mom

If you’re looking for even more musical things to do with mom, visit the Peninsula Performing Arts Center for an intimate concert.
