The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is happy to invite you back to visit “The Grand Hotels of
the North Beach Peninsula,” a special exhibition on view until October 8th at the Columbia
Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. We have reopened this exhibit with a new carriage, the

Tandem Sporting Gig c1890s, thanks to a generous loan from the

Northwest Carriage Museum in Raymond.

During the late 19th and early 20th century, the vacation resort industry began on the North
Beach Peninsula. Fueled by a burgeoning upper/middle class in Portland and the relative ease
of river transportation on steam ships like the T.J. Potter, resorts began to pop up both big and
small. This exhibition highlights ten hotels and explores the pastimes of the summer tourist,
from surf bathing to shipwrecks to lifesaving and even occasional excursions

to view wildlife both dead and alive.

Come and see us again or for the first time. We are open Wednesday through Saturday,
10 am – 4 pm. This exhibit is up through October 8, 2022. Admission is free thanks

to our Members and the Port of Ilwaco.
